Keeping up with the Joneses! ~ Tacoma Family Photographer

Some of you may be wondering (if you've followed these edits on my Facebook page) why I recently flew all the way to Northern Colorado to do a family photo shoot.  Well, this, my friends, is no ordinary family- they're MY family!  Robert and his beautiful wife Sarah are my brother and sister-in-law, which makes that handsome little dude in the photos my nephew.  Lucky me, I know!

Obviously, I couldn't let a perfectly good photo shoot opportunity slip through my fingers, so Robert and Sarah and I got to planning.  After all, it had been a year since I had photographed them last, which was too long!  I am so glad they suggested Lory State Park, near Horsetooth Resevoir and Fort Collins.  It's a beautiful location with green scrubby trees, little yellow wildflowers, and red-orange rock.  Add to that a beautiful golden sunset and you can see why I was giddy to get to work on these photos as soon as I got home!

Robert, Sarah, and Jackson are hands-down the most chilled-out family I have photographed in recent memory.  They made my job easy!  Not to mention the fact that they are all so photogenic.  So without any further ado, scroll down and see for yourself how lucky I am to call these folks not only my family, but my subjects, too!

Never underestimate the power of a simple, natural pose.  (And some pretty little flowers.)

Robert's face cracks me up in this one.  Jackson, meanwhile, is obviously quite used to his crazy Daddy!

Roxy takes her place beside one of her favorite humans.  :)

I have a weakness for brightly colored children's chairs, especially in fields of flowers...

Ah, mother and son.  Love!

This photo is a perfect example of why I love using a very long lens for portraits.  I was at least 30 feet away, crouching down in the grass, so they were able to play and cuddle and interact naturally- and I still got great photos!

Silliness is not in short supply with these three!

As is my custom, I had to get a few shots of just Mom and Dad, while Jackson happily watched from his stroller.

These hats were a real novelty to Jackson!

The look on Jackson's face is adorable, and Robert's is pretty funny, too.

Parting shot!  Neon orange pool noodle and all.  ;)

Thanks for looking, friends!  After a "leisurely" maternity leave, this fall is looking very busy for me, so stay tuned to see more blog posts and more beautiful families!
